Second-hand clothes trade - Second-hand clothing is a big business in open-air markets across many African countries. It immediately made me think of 18th and 19th Century attitudes to slavery - not because the Bangladeshi factory workers were enslaved like African-American slaves - but rather because our collective attitudes to these workers and the clothing industry they`re part of seem comparable to the attitudes of the majority of people who consumed the products of slavery in England during the 18th and 19th Centuries.
Such imports have devastated the local clothing industries and led the region to rely far too heavily on the West. There are considerable overlaps between the terms clothing-/garment-, textile - and fashion industry The clothing sector is concerned with all types of clothes, from fashion to uniforms , e-textiles and workwear Textile industry is less concerned with the fashion aspect but produces the fabrics and fibres that are required for tailoring The fashion industry closely follows - and sets - fashion trends to always supply the latest in non-functional clothing.
